Agua Fresca

I am finishing off the week with a drink because who doesn’t want a nice refreshing beverage to celebrate the weekend! There were actually a couple other drink recipes before this one but I skipped them due to personal preferences.

This is agua fresca which just means fresh water (or cool water). It is made with fruits that are blended with water and sugar. This recipe also has some lime juice which balances out the sweetness aspect.

You can use quite a variety of fruits, it can be melon, strawberries, pineapple or even mango. I think some citrus could even work here. I kept mine super simple and just used watermelon because they are in season right now and I knew it would be delicious.

My melon was pretty sweet to begin, so I cut the sugar in half and it was perfect. This is essentially a melon smoothie and it was very summery and fresh. I’m not usually a fan of pulpy drinks but this one actually wasn’t bad. The recipe says you can strain it but then you would be losing all the fruity goodness and it just seems like a lot of effort too.

So I quite enjoyed this as is and I’m sure you could turn it into an adult beverage by adding some alcohol, maybe vodka or rum.
