It’s the last day of April and I thought it would be fun to finish the month with a viral recipe. Before I get into this post though, I want to remind you that my next newsletter is going out on Monday (May 3rd). It’s all about food and has lots of good kitchen tricks/tips. If you want to sign up, you can click here –> subscribe.
This is the famous Tiktok Ramen. I remember seeing this everywhere a little while ago and knew I wanted to make it. But sadly, I got caught up in all my other recipes and ended up forgetting about this one. After I made those red curry noodles on Monday (link here), this ramen popped back into my head.
I mean, I love instant noodles in general. I never prepare the noodles with the soup mix – I prefer to add my own seasonings. One of my go-to preparations is noodles with simple peanut sauce. I was very excited to try this version though.
If you have no idea which recipe I’m talking about, let me tell you about it. So it starts with cooked instant noodles, which get mixed with butter, garlic, brown sugar, soy sauce, chili flakes and egg and then finished with some everything bagel seasoning. Sounds like quite the variety of ingredients but it WORKS. I couldn’t find the original Tiktok of the recipe, but I used the measurements from Hello Yummy (link here).
The garlic butter adds such a nice richness. And then it gets layered with the salty soy, sweet brown sugar and spice from the chili flakes. It is super well-balanced and hits all the flavour profiles. The two last components – egg and everything bagel seasoning – are the winners here. The egg here is like a soft scramble, as you see in a fried rice. Both of these items add nice texture and a little bit of crunch which is the the perfect addition to the noodles.
I’m so happy I got to try this. I will definitely make it again and serve over a simply stirfry just to add a ton more nutrition.
