You know I love oatmeal. You can find a lot of oatmeal posts on my blog (a mix of my own recipes, as well as ones from online and cookbooks). Also, it doesn’t matter whether it’s hot or cold, I can’t get enough of it. One thing that is newer to me though, is adding oats into smoothies. I have just usually stuck to milks/yogurt and fruits/veggies for my smoothies, but this Instant Oatmeal Smoothie was a goodie. It combines two good items into one. This is a recipe from the Thug Kitchen 101 cookbook.
The first time I had oats in a smoothie was months ago when I made the Jade n Juice smoothie, also from this cookbook. This smoothie today had all the ingredients I would normally put in my oatmeal (oats, almond milk, banana, peanut butter) but it was blended with ice to make a delicious drink.
The oats and frozen banana help to make it thick and creamy. And obviously the peanut butter worked great here because it goes well with bananas. This was quite a filling smoothie, it would be a great breakfast on the go. I also like that it wasn’t overly sweet, you could really taste the oats.
I will definitely make this again but I would prefer it to be a little thinner in consistency – this could be accomplished by increasing the amount of almond milk or decreasing the amount of oats. As is, this smoothie was a touch too thick which made it hard to drink through a straw. But that’s just me being picky here – this was a great drink.
