I love takeout chinese food. One of my favourite dishes is honey-garlic chicken because it’s a little crispy but soft inside and it’s coated in delicious sweet and sticky sauce. I just adore it. One thing I don’t like as much though, is that most of the dishes are battered and fried, making them a little unhealthy.
But today, I am happy to share that this sticky garlic chicken from Buzzfeed Tasty (link here) is equally as delicious. The sauce was more complex than a typical honey-garlic sauce because it also had ginger, hoisin and some sriracha for a kick. I would make that sauce and just use it in a vegetable stirfry or to toss with noodles. So yummy.
Taste aside, this chicken was much healthier because it was neither battered, nor fried. The pieces of chicken were coated in a little panko bread crumbs and baked until golden and crispy. So there was no added fat to cook the chicken. Once baked, they are coated with the homemade sauce and it turned out so well.
I served my sticky chicken on a little bed of brown rice with some sauteed zucchini. This was a great meal, and healthy alternative to takeout! It’s also much nicer on your budget. I hope you get cooking 🙂 .
