Let me just start by saying I was never a huge smoothie drinker. I don’t know why, but I never really made myself smoothies nor did I really ever have the desire to do so. However, since making the cinnamon-almond green smoothie from the Love Real Food cookbook (link here), I’ve been on a smoothie kick.
So today, I’ve made my own delicious drink. This smoothie takes a couple minutes to make and has just 3 ingredients: chocolate milk, banana and peanut butter. I had a feeling all the flavours would work really well together and I was right.
The key to this smoothie is using frozen bananas. They replace the need to add ice cubes and give a nice creaminess to the drink. Tip: whenever I have some older bananas, instead of putting them in the freezer whole, I take off the peel, break them into chunks and store them in a freezer bag. It’s so easy to take out a couple pieces to use in any recipe.
If you wanted to make it even healthier, you could add 1 tbsp chia or flax seeds. You could probably even add a scoop of protein powder to make it more of a protein smoothie – you may just require an extra splash of milk or water.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups chocolate milk
- 2 bananas, frozen in chunks
- 3 tbsp peanut butter
Directions:
- Place all ingredients in blender and process until smooth. Pour into 2 glasses and enjoy immediately.
