Crispy Baked Tofu

If you’re someone who’s trying to eat more vegetable proteins, tofu is a very versatile ingredient to start with. I have made countless tofu recipes on my blog, you can check them out here –> tofu recipes.

Today, I made yet another recipe, a much simpler one. This is from Gimme Some Oven (link here). It is a basic crispy tofu recipe and you can make it as an addition to any meal. I had some noodles and vegetable stir fry which went great with it. You could also eat this as a little snack, and dip the pieces of tofu in homemade peanut sauce – recipe for that is from my Peanut Ginger Noodle Bowl. (Note: funny enough, that noodle bowl also has tofu, but it is cooked in a frying pan. But either way you go – oven or pan – you will love crispy tofu).

So like I said, this baked tofu was quite an easy recipe, and there are only a few ingredients – tofu, olive oil, cornstarch and seasonings. The cornstarch helps to give the little crispiness to the outside of the tofu, which helps improve the texture. The seasonings – salt, pepper, garlic powder – give nice flavour and make the tofu less boring.

The other thing that helps to get the tofu crispy is pressing it down between paper towels. This removes any excess water and makes the tofu much firmer. Since the recipe uses extra firm tofu to begin with, the step of pressing the tofu might sound unnecessary, but trust me, it helps.

Now that you know some keys to getting crispy tofu (in a healthy way), I hope you try to make it for yourself!
