Moscow Mules

I’m not a huge alcohol drinker, but I love a good cocktail once in a while. One of my favourite drinks (especially for the summer) is the moscow mule. If you don’t know, this is a pretty simple drink made with ginger beer*, vodka and lime juice – that’s it, only 3 ingredients. It is such a great summer beverage because it is super refreshing.

*Note on ginger beer: this is not the same as ginger ale. Ginger beer is non-alcoholic and spiced which gives it a kick. The one I use is from President’s Choice (link here).

My love for this drink started when I went on a trip with my friend to San Francisco. We went to this restaurant and one of their happy hour specials was moscow mules, so I had to get one. It was so brightly flavoured and I loved the kick of the ginger beer.

Now here we are today, and it’s so nice to make this drink and relax in the backyard on a hot summer day. As you can see, I even have my own copper mug which is traditional for mules – helps to keep the drink super cold. The copper also just looks really pretty too.

The recipe I am sharing here is based off a version that I found online, but the amounts are what I currently make (and enjoy). I like mine with a little more ginger beer so that the vodka flavour is not as strong. But if you like a stiffer drink, you can always reduce the amount of ginger beer. You can also switch up the amount of lime juice if you want more acidity. Try it out and see what you like best 🙂 Always remember to drink responsibly

Ingredients:

  • 6oz ginger beer* (be sure to read note above)
  • 2oz vodka
  • 1/2oz lime juice
  • ice

Directions:

  1. Mix ginger beer, vodka and lime juice in copper mug (or any cup) and top with few ice cubes. Enjoy immediately.
